All-on-X® implants offer a revolutionary approach to restoring your smile and oral function when you are missing most or all of your teeth. This treatment uses precisely placed dental implants to support a full arch of replacement teeth, providing you with a stable, natural-looking smile that feels and functions like your own. All-on-X implants in Oak Lawn, Illinois, are ideal for patients seeking a long-term solution without the complexity of traditional dentures or full-mouth implants.

How All-on-X Implants Work

Unlike conventional dentures, All-on-X implants use dental implants placed at strategic angles to maximize bone contact and stability. This unique approach often eliminates the need for bone grafting procedures, even in cases of bone loss. After the implants are placed, a customized denture is securely attached, often on the same day, allowing you to leave your appointment with a confident, functional smile.

This immediate-load concept means that you can begin enjoying the benefits of your new teeth right away, without the extended healing times commonly associated with traditional implant treatments. Your implants will gradually integrate with your jawbone, creating a permanent and durable foundation for your new smile.

Benefits of All-on-X Implants

All-on-X treatment offers numerous advantages for individuals in need of full-mouth restoration. These benefits include:

  • Full arch rehabilitation using implants
  • Immediate placement of prosthetic teeth for faster results
  • No bone grafting required in most cases
  • Shorter treatment and recovery time
  • Improved comfort, speech and ability to eat
  • Enhanced facial structure support and aesthetics
  • Greater cost efficiency compared to traditional implants

Because All-on-X implants are fixed in place, they will not shift or slip like conventional dentures. You will be able to eat, speak and smile with confidence knowing your teeth are secure.

Pre-Op Instructions

Medical & Medication Guidelines

Before your procedure, you will need to provide a full medical history and list of current medications. Inform our dental team about any conditions such as diabetes, heart disease or immune disorders, as these may affect healing. Some medications, including blood thinners, may need to be temporarily adjusted with your physician’s approval. If you have been prescribed antibiotics or a sedative prior to your procedure, take them exactly as directed. Refrain from taking aspirin or ibuprofen unless instructed otherwise.

Fasting & Hydration Instructions

If your All-on-X procedure involves IV sedation or general anesthesia, do not eat or drink anything for at least eight hours before your scheduled appointment. This includes water, coffee and chewing gum. If you take essential medications in the morning, discuss with our dentists and oral surgeon whether a small sip of water is permitted to swallow pills. Stay hydrated the day before surgery, and avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment.

Day of Surgery Preparations

Wear loose, comfortable clothing and avoid wearing makeup, perfume or jewelry. A short-sleeved shirt is recommended if IV sedation will be used. Remove contact lenses and bring a case for your glasses, if applicable. Arrange for a responsible adult to drive you to and from the appointment, as you will not be allowed to drive following sedation or anesthesia. Plan to rest for the remainder of the day.

Oral Hygiene Before the Procedure

Maintain excellent oral hygiene in the days leading up to surgery. Brush and floss thoroughly, but gently. On the day of surgery, brush your teeth without swallowing water or toothpaste. Avoid using mouthwash unless it has been specifically prescribed. A clean oral environment reduces the risk of infection and promotes better healing.

Additional Considerations

You may want to stock up on soft foods like smoothies, soup, applesauce and yogurt to eat during the first few days of recovery. Set up a comfortable recovery space at home with extra pillows, prescribed medications and any post-op supplies provided by the dental office. Be sure to follow any specific pre-operative instructions provided by our dentists and oral surgeon.

If you have any questions about preparing for your All-on-X procedure, reach out to our team for guidance. Clear communication and thoughtful preparation help lay the foundation for a successful outcome.

Post-Op Instructions

Immediate Care After Surgery

Keep the gauze pads placed at the surgical site for at least 30 to 60 minutes after your procedure. Apply gentle pressure by biting down to help control bleeding. If bleeding persists, replace the gauze and continue to apply pressure. Avoid rinsing, spitting or touching the surgical area on the day of your procedure. You may resume gentle rinsing the following day using warm saltwater (half a teaspoon of salt in eight ounces of water) every few hours.

Medications & Pain Management

Take all prescribed medications as directed. Antibiotics should be completed in full to reduce the risk of infection. For discomfort, you may use over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, unless advised otherwise by your doctor. If stronger medication has been prescribed, follow those instructions exactly.

Oral Hygiene & Cleaning

You may begin gently brushing your teeth the day after surgery, taking care to avoid the surgical site. Do not use an electric toothbrush or water flosser near the implants until cleared by our dentists. Continue rinsing with saltwater after meals and before bed for at least two weeks to promote healing and keep the area clean.

Dietary Guidelines

For the first few days after surgery, follow a soft-food or liquid diet. Good options include smoothies, yogurt, scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes and soups. Avoid hot, spicy, crunchy or chewy foods. Refrain from using a straw, as suction may disrupt healing. As your comfort improves, gradually reintroduce more foods as recommended by your dental team.

Activity, Swelling & Rest

You may experience swelling, bruising or mild bleeding for several days. Apply a cold compress to the outside of your face in 15-minute intervals during the first 48 hours. After that, switch to moist heat to support circulation and healing. Keep your head elevated while resting and avoid strenuous activity for at least 48 to 72 hours.

Other Important Instructions

Do not wear any removable prosthetics or dentures unless specifically directed by our dentists. Refrain from smoking or using tobacco products, as they significantly increase the risk of implant failure. Alcohol should also be avoided during the early healing period. If a healing abutment becomes loose or falls out, contact our office immediately.

If you have any questions about your recovery or experience unusual symptoms such as severe pain, excessive bleeding, fever or swelling that worsens after a few days, please contact our office promptly. We are committed to helping you heal comfortably and successfully.
