To help you maintain excellent oral health and prevent the development of oral pathologies, Dr. Pallotto offers many preventive care services. Signs of tooth decay, gum disease, and other dental concerns may first be treated with a dental biopsy to help us gain a better understanding of your oral health. If you are interested in receiving a dental biopsy in Oak Lawn, Illinois, we encourage you to schedule a visit with our dentist at Oak Dental Associates.
A dental biopsy is the removal of a sample of gum tissue from your mouth, and is often performed to evaluate abnormal gum tissue. We send the gum tissue sample to a dental lab to be examined. Our dentists may recommend a dental biopsy if:
• You have a persistent sore on your gums
• You develop a red or white patch on your gums
• Your gums have ulcers
• You develop persistent swelling or tenderness in the gums
• Changes in your gums are causing loose teeth
• Changes in your gums prevent you from wearing dentures
Dental biopsies are often performed to identify signs of oral cancer, and can be used in conjunction with X-rays, CT scans, and MRI scans. If you have noticed any changes in your gums or suspect you may have an oral disease, please call or visit our office today to schedule an oral exam.
